Masonboro Golf Club

First time playing course in a few years. Course is both challenging and fun to play. Slow play was a little annoying for a January day. Course does not take water well and recent rain made for damp conditions. The extreme amount of bunkers and water holes will challenge anyone. But five sets of tees gives everyone a chance to have fun on this golf course.

Masonboro CC is, in my opinion, one of the best courses in southeast NC, and it is often overlooked. For a beautiful Saturday afternoon, spending $25 w/cart was hard to pass up.
Course is always in fantastic shape, and the practice facilities are kept up better than any course in the area.

My wife and I played here on Fri 10-30. Weather was 72 and sunny with a breeze so it was just perfect. Not too busy, let a twosome go thru us early but back 9 we saw no one. Course is in totally fantastic shape, with nice landscaping. We enjoyed our time but...Warning: this is a difficult course! The landing areas are quite narrow and a poorly struck ball will probably not be found. The greens are well-protected so traps and water will be in play. Moundings can and will kick errant shots off their intended targets. Frustration may ensue. Not a lot of room for error. Enjoy the scenery, take a few deep breaths, and pack a few more bullets. You will be re-loading.

After a monsoon on Saturday things held up pretty well - greens were dry and the fairways weren't bad

You gotta hit the ball straight to score on this course. I will definitely go back and play it again.

One of the most challenging courses in the area so bring your A game. Course condition was emaculate as always and very friendly staff. highly recommend playing if your in the area!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I am from Atlanta and had a day to kill. The course was in great condition and plays tight but very fair. Try to get paired up with someone who's played there before because there is a lot of trouble out there.

Masonboro is a tough golf challenge with tight fairways and fast greens. Course in great shape as is overall facility. My only comment/suggestion is we played in 95 degree heat and there were no water coolers on the course and with no cart service was tough. My thoughts you either have cart service or coolers. There was a refreshment area in the club house and you do pass on back 9 three times but front 9 you do not.

Course was well maintained and lightning fast. Drives roll for days and greens are quick making putting, dare I say, fun. Highly recommend. Excellent staff.

Grain overpowers break on some greens making for fun reads. Greens in great shape and roll true. Fairway accuracy is challenged on front.

I guess the title says it all. Layout is difficult, and the holes are very tight. We were a twosome that got pairted up with a local single. "Diabolical" was his word of the day as he used it to describe different holes. I think water comes into play in 14 of the 18 holes.

Greens were fast with some subtle breaks. Fair, but hard, course that makes you use all the clubs in your bag. As a first time player, it was even more difficult not knowing what to hit, where -- we were glad to have been teamed up with someone that had played the course.

Word of caution: we played the blues -- about 6500 yards, Whites were only 6005 -- we always try and play as close to 6300 - 6400 as possible. We should have played whites, it plays much longer than the yardage indicated I think due to the Par 71 course (one less par 5).

The course is BEAUTIFUL, has great landscape and pretty holes. Wew saw a gator taking a stroll (10 - 12 footer) and other wildlife.

Very tough front nine, but Played well on back nine. You must be able to hit precision tee shots and also read greens and putt well to score on this course. Most greens were in great shape, but very important to hit the greens in the right place or you may be in trouble 2 putting.

Very challenging course with lots of sand, water, and elevation. Overall very fun.

Masonboro is tight of the tee, slight doglegs with visual obstructions present a challenge, especially your first time around. Must trust club selection and aim with the tee ball, (OB, water and bunkers a plenty) Greens are well protected and you use just about every club in the bag getting to them. Love the layout, a challenge but fair!!!

Condition of the course is good not great, still coming out of winter. Some areas still brown, the greens are in pretty good shape and roll true just not overly speedy.

Can't wait to get back, left after 13 holes because high school match was on the course and holding things up. Sometimes you just get unlucky with what's been booked on the course and playing as a single.

Always enjoy the challenge here Very nice layout and the course conditions improve each year. We encountered some heave rain but the ground handled it nicely.

This is by far my favorite course in Wilmington. I recommend this place to every guest that asks me about places to play that stay at my hotel. Course is challenging and beautiful. The scenery is gorgeous. Course is tight with phenomenal greens. I played after it rained and you would have never known it. Bunkers where raked out and still soft. Fairways where not hard but defiantly not mushy. Greens were receptive. I am stunned by this place every time I play it. Masonboro and Cape Fear National are the two best courses here and always recommend them to the guests at my hotel.
