This was a fun course to play with a great combination of challenging and easy holes.
Once you get past the lumpy parking lot and trailer clubhouse this course was a great value with the $30 GolfNow price. Play was slow as they had a tournament of some sort there that day but we definitely enjoyed the round. Course conditions were better than expected given the others we had played in the area this early in the spring. On several holes it is best to go forward and look at what you are facing as there are trouble areas that can't be seen from the tee boxes. All in all it was a very enjoyable round and one we will keep on the list to play again when in the Pinehurst area.
Every hole is isolated into the woods. Very challenging...
The course is excellent. Some holes are blind to the group on the tees. Need a bell on those holes to assure the group in front are clear of those teeing off.
Enjoyed the course
Had a great time teeing it up at The Carolina. I was able to get a great rate on Golfnow, which helped as anytime I can play golf for <$35 at a nice course, no complaints. The course was in great shape, challenging as I remember it from last year and I look forward to returning again if I can get a good rate again.
Lots of elevation
Course knowledge helps. Lots of blind tee shots and elevation changes. Different clubhouse (a trailer), but the course requires shot making. Definitely fun.
Good for this time of year!
I've played the Carolina many times over the last 15 years. It is almost always in great shape. It is an interesting and challenging design with the most challenging greens this side of Pinehurst #2. This early in the season (April 2, 2013), the course isn't in the kind of shape it will be during the rest of the season, but only the traps were in substandard condition. They badly needed to be raked and worked. Otherwise it was a beautiful day and a good value at $35.
Excellent condition for winter golf. Greens excellent.
Nice hilly wooded course with interesting turns and carries. Greens vary in elevation. 5 tees to choose from. Better to ride than walk because there's usually a distance between Green next tee. You don't see other fairways. Few houses on course so there's a secluded feeling.
Great course
Played after a day of rain so the course was a little wet but they have great drainage and the course played great
The Carolina is a very challenging course that challenges all levels of players. This course has a lot of waste area around greens and off the tee.
The Carolina is a nice course, is very challenging and requires accurate tee shots.
Good layout.
The greens were top dressed with sand which I was not aware of when I booked the tee time with Golfnow. That made putting difficult and not fun.
Good Place to Play
The Carolina is a typical Palmer design, with some difficult holes, but very challenging. The greens were sanded (recently aerated) but still in good shape. The sand bunkers needed some maintenance. For the money at this time of year, it was a very good place to play.
Great lay out. well done bunkering
Great course. Very challenging. Found it very entertaining
Very good wintertime conditions
Course is quite enjoyable. Greens in excellent condition. One problem was that some par 3's from the gold tees did not have yardage markers so without GPS you are guessing. Why not stick a yardage marker in the ground. Can't cost much for 3 holes. Also there are lots of blind tee shot hole but there are no hole maps showing you where to go so you have to drive up and look which wastes time. This would cost a little more but still not that expensive. Overall very good course but could be great with these minor upgrades.
Hidden Gem
Great course. You wouldn't think it pulling in but turned out to be great! Awesome layout and was really impressed with the greens, especially at this time of year.
Nice course nice layout
Housing development course and you need a cart since there are some long treks between holes. Lot of elevation changes. I enjoyed plauing this course.
Great day of golf
I am so glad I booked my round of golf at the Carolina Club. I really enjoyed the course and the staff are very friendly.
Thanks.
This course has a challenging layout, and requires good shot making.
The course has a great layout and requires good shot making. The only concern is that it wasn't maintained well during the summer months, but the course is looking much better now after they started to cut the ruff and redid the sand traps.
Scenic and challenging.
Except for my greeting ( they seemed put out that I was unable to provide a printed copy of my online purchase, I was traveling at the time.) everything else was great. This was late Nov. so the fairways were dormant but the greens were exceptional. The course well maintained and for me challenging. I partnered with another guest with more course experience and this helped a lot. All in all a good time and great value. I'll be back.
An interesting layout
Small dirt parking lot, mobile home for a clubhouse, gas power carts, not a very good introduction for an Arnold Palmer course but the pro shop attendant was friendly and helpful. The fairways are never over-seeded so they remain brown but they were in good condition. There are five sets of tees so you can easily pick the distances that you want to play and you need to because from the first tee shot it becomes apparent that there are going to be many natural obstacles to maneuver around the course. These would certainly present a problem for any golfers who do not manage to get the ball airborne and sometimes the carry itself was tough. There was a variety of holes, no two the same, that are well isolated from each other with strategically placed bunkers and no room for error for wayward tee shots that go beyond the rough. The greens were generally quite fast and large with undulations, slope and subtleties that made them a challenge to read. Overall, both I and my spouse, who is a good golfer, enjoyed the unique layout and the challenges this course presented but we did agree that most ladies would probably not like this course. If you get a good price then it is certainly worth playing once for sure to allow one to make up their own mind.
All about the golf
I have played this course a couple of times and really enjoy it. The greens were extremely fast when I played this time and the breaks are hard to read and severe. If you are not hitting the ball straight or having a rough day on the greens your score can balloon here.
This course is all about the golf. If you enjoy golf on a very scenic, challenging course and are not concerned about the clubhouse's appearance or course amenities then this is a course for you.
Great value as well, for a difficult, scenic course on a beautiful, sunny day in early November.
PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE
GOOD GREENS, REST OF COURSE NEEDS MAJOR WORK. FACILITIES ARE NON-EXISTENT. HARD TO BELIEVE THIS IS AN ARNOLD-PALMER DESIGNED COURSE. HAS POTENTIAL BUT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANYTHING WILL BE HAPPENING IN THE NEAR FUTURE. GOOD THAT WE DIDN'T PAY THE GOING RATE.
