Disappointing decline
Over the years our foursome has developed a play list for courses in the Pinehurst area ( Mid Pines, #8, Southern Pines GC, etc.) which USED TO include Little River. No more. We have never seen a nice track like this deteriorate so much in just one year. Simply put, it has fallen on hard times. They seemed to be trying to save the greens, but nothing, and I do mean nothing, else - buildings, cart paths ( one bridge over a creek looked iffy to cross), fairways, pro shop. Everything was just sadly shoddy and neglected. If you had Little River on your list, cross it off and hope someone comes in and resurrects what was once an enjoyable play.
Golf getaway
Still early season. Fairways still dormant. greens were in great shape and fast. Would definitely go back.
Downhill
This course is definitely going in the wrong direction. Did not seem as though any maintenance had been done on ANY part of the course in months. Have played this course many times in previous years and the current condition is way below what we used to see. This course is definitely going in the wrong direction.
Nice course, but needs some touch-up.
We were lucky to play this course on a 70 degree February day. The course was in great condition despite being the middle of winter. The biggest thing they need to fix is the appearance around it. The cart paths were horrible, with roots underneath causing cracks and bumps that haven't been tended to. Also, the distance markers need repainting, all on the path and some in the fairways. The maintenance buildings around the 18th could also use a fresh coat, just for aesthetics. I loved the actual course, but people also appreciate some nice scenery to accompany it.
Nice, tough course
I still have yet to play an entire good round at this course. Several tough holes with opportunities to find trouble. Great course for the $$$.
good layout
Off season, had rained quite a lot night before, love to play it again
One of our favorites
Little River is a fun course. Front is long, but open driving areas. Back is shorter, with more decisions required. Greens are hard to read, but putt true. Beautiful place; very few houses on the course, lots of scenery. Go. Play!
Great course. Tough challenge
I wrote a review for this course last year when it was not in good shape. Two weeks ago I played it and it was in very good shape. I understand they are in receivership waiting for a purchase to close so they've cut their budget but the only sign of that so far is that the pin flags are just rags. Otherwise, the course is in good shape and because it is a good design and very challenging it remains a great option in the sandhills area.
Good course but could be sold.
Nice course but has all the marks of one in decline.
Tee boxes and greens not in great shape and all of the pin flags were in tatters and no longer able to distinguish between front, middle and back, Out buildings in disrepair. Only one server at the turn, but my guest thought the hotdog was great. Very difficult from the white tees so we went down to the golds.
Nice!!!
Great test...good condition. Only complaint was lack of easily visible yardage markers. Had to use range finder quite a bit. Other than that, fine place to play.
Pace Of Play Horrible!
I booked this course as a single at a BIG discount on what the regular fees, and golf now normal fees are. I played the front nine by myself as there was nobody there, in 1 1/2 hours. I caught up with a foursome on the 10th tee, so i just chilled and relaxed realizing the back nine would be slow. 2 other guys came up and joined me, so we then had a threesome. After the foursome in front of us got to the green, we decided to go ahead. We caught the foursome on the next Tee box, which is a par 5, and found 4 groups on the hole. We waited 10 minutes and the guys on the tee box had still not tee'd off, so we swung around and played the front nine again. No ranger was ever seen the whole day. I think they only had 3 people working, Check-In, Carts, and snack lady! As far as course condition, it was OK, but it does look like they don't spend anytime doing much here, just mow and thats it. No bunker raking or anything. There is NO WAY i would pay over $30 to play this course period, and not sure i will be back due to the pace of play. Just an note, one previous time i played, was by myself and nobody on the course, the Check-In guy, bald headed, made me wait 45 mins for the group he had paired me with to show up before i could go play. There wasn't a sole on the course either!
Awesome.
Little river is one of my favorite courses in the area. Staff are awesome. Course is firm and fast. They have done a great job with this course!
This course has some tough carry holes for senior golfers.
Course was very interesting. Senior golfers should definitely tee it forward to have a more enjoyable round.
Little River Nightmare
The course looks like they are getting ready to sell. I felt like I was on the set of "Walking Dead". No sand in the sandtraps, wild grass growing in the fairways and greens. We were excited about playing here but that was soon just a memory. The lay-out is great and the course would be too if someone would come in and show it some love.
Little RIver
I've played here a number of times over 4-5 yrs and really like it. Today was jammed with a lot of foursomes, including many women and the pace of play went to a crawl, something I''ve not experienced at Little River. So taht was disappointing, one of the groundsmen followed me for a number of holes like a stalker rathert than telling the foursomes ahead of me to pick it up.
Must play
Beautiful course. One of the best in the Sandhills. Will play it again. Great staff.
Great Variety of Holes
Very fun course to play with a variety of holes. Short/long, left/right. Surprising the amount of elevation changes in the sandhills! Greens were good other than numerous unrepaired ball marks.
Fairways were firm (need rain) and rough not too penal. Well worth the drive from Raleigh....especially getting a GN Hot Deal. Will be back soon!
Looks like it's fallen on hard times
Had always heard good things about this course. But it looks like they fallen on very hard times. It's too bad should be a very nice place. The course conditions were Decent. Many buildings around the layout were abandoned. They tried to make up for lost revenue by overcharging for food and items in the pro shop. $50 for a hat!! Beers for four dollars a can!! We won't go back there again
Great Value
Little River was in good shape. I would highly recommend this course for the price. $21!
We were able to play the ball down and the greens rolled nicely.
Always a pleasure playing this course.
This course was in great shape ( middle of July ). You always know you are going to enjoy yourself when you play Little River. The clubhouse is very nice and the entire staff treat you extremely well.
