I have attempted to play this course several times since it opened. I knew a man who had bought his membership prior to its opening (at a cost that was prohibitive). When it opened there was a drought and because the course had spent a fortune on sod there was no money left for irrigation apparently. There is only 1 or two small ponds to draw water from. The designers or original management didn't think water was needed apparently. After all the sod died, the management attempted to re-sod it with fescue. Fescue requires even more watering and with a drought it never really took. I will admit, the greens are very good. However; the fairways are an obstacle course, which is the only type of course that one can describe. You hit your drive and after it ricochets off the field of rocks and eroded dirt which makes up the most of all fairways there, if you find your ball, you have to take a drop often 20 or 30 yards left, right, or back in order to hit is again without damaging your golf club. So a few years ago Fred Smith bought the course along with a few others in the area. It was hoped he would bring in excavators and build a few ponds that could supply water for the fairways. Instead, the course is operating with a skeleton crew who know little about golf or pretend to know little, The range is always closed. They don't have enough balls for the range and they are in terrible condition. The range looks like it has been used by the Air Force Strategic Air Command as a bombing practice range. But the workers at the club don't bother or there are not enough of them to run the ball picker to refill the ball bin in the clubhouse. They have been for the past 5 weeks allowing golfers to pick their own balls from the range and even provided baskets to do so. The club website says there is a "Pro" onsite. The name of the Pro is not listed anywhere and when googled, is is unfindable. The "Pro" left the golf shop early on Friday 24SEP2021 to drive around the course or some other business while there was still a few hours of daylight left. He told a golfer who was using the range and had been directed to pick his own balls over the past several weeks, that the range was closed. As it has been closed for at least 5 weeks, and the golfer in question had been told to pick his own, that is what he did. When he told the person who identified himself as "The Head Pro" for the course (no name), that he had been directed at least 3 times to pick his own balls, the "Pro" called him a liar (not tactfully but directly). He then told the golfer he was a thief (not tactfully but directly)the conversation became heated and broke down after that. The golfer told the "Pro" that he could keep his range, and wreck of a golf course and said he would never play there again. I am in total agreement with the golfer, and was also along with a few other golfers, picking balls last Saturday in order to use the always closed range. I will be telling every golfer and there are many I know, not to bother golfing at the Rocky Old Liberty Course. At least until Fred Smith fires the "Pro", and his workers, and makes the missile range into a golf course. With the money Smith has it is a "get down on the ground and pound with your fists, crying shame such a good layout is such a disaster.

As I read these reviews I really don't know what to say but this. I planning on building my new home at old liberty and am looking forward to many rounds of golf there. This golf course is GOING TO BE A REAL GEM!! And if anyone can't see that then you know nothing about golf and it's OK to leave this one to me!! I've taken my clients out a gave lesions there as well as my team to prep them for regionals in Pinehurst! This is a true tournament golf course and will come into its own! I surely plan to be there right on the 17th fairway and watch every minute of it!!

This golf course is getting better. the lay out is of a champions style golf course. you have a variety of diffrent holes that make this course a challenge! greens are great! but the fairways and rough still need time to mature but overall for the price! a good track to play at!!

Played this week and have seen a lot of improvement. Greens are still great and fairways are getting better. Layout is awesome. Great value.

This course is great, extremely challenging. Finally a course where you don't spend the day hitting driver then pitching wedge all day. You actually feel like you played well on holes where you only have a par. The course layout will create situations where you will be forced to hit most all of the clubs in your bag. The senior tees are more like the white tees at most courses, the white tees are like playing the blues and should you decide to play the blues then all I can say is welcome to the TOUR !!

A while back, this course had great bent greens until right before it closed. The fairways at that time were not very good. Since Fred Smith has purchased this course they have converted to Champion Bermuda and the greens are once again in great shape. It is also obvious that due to the rain we have been getting and some work on the fairways, they are coming along and improving everyday. If you have not played this course in the last year and a half, then give it another try. The rates are reasonable and if played from the right tees offers a challenge to anyone.

The price is good for what you get. The front 9 is a little rough on the fairways and are just not in great shape at all. The design of the 9th hole is not the greatest. I must say the back 9, was very open and just nice to play on. Again fairways in not great condition but the greens are in amazing condition. For the price you pay, it is a very nice course and if you can handle the not so great fairways, check this beautiful laid out course.

The course has gotten some TLC since Fred Smith Companies has taken it over. The Greens are new bermuda and roll nice. The course is set up so walking is tough. I hate carts so I was not a fan. If you see J. Boardway out there during the week be sure he wil record an 85 no matter what. He can shoot a 71 still will record a 85..... sand bagger.

I played Olde Liberty around 2 years ago and was highly disappointed in the condition of the course. When I heard the course reopened I decided to check it out. The price for play was reasonable, layout is great, greens are in excellent shape, and fairways have come a long way but still need a little improvement as far as smoothness is concerned.

I used to play the course before it closed last year and was skeptical when it re-opened. Very surprised. Greens are very good and the rest of the course has filled in quite well. Fairways are still a little bumpy, but they are a lot better from what they were.

    Will be back again.

We've played this track a few times, but it never got better, so haven't been there for a couple of years. Nice layout, greens and tee boxes were first class, but fairways and any areas between cart paths and fairways were terrible. This course was constructed with sod over clay. Unfortunately, this was being done in a drought year. Without the proper amount of rain, the sod shrunk and the result was very poor fairways.

The course closed in Sept. 2011. It reopened on August 3, 2012. The Fred Smith Company
bought it and added it to their other 3 courses in the area: Hedingham, Riverwood and Eagle Ridge. We are anxious to see if they've made a difference. I'm sure they have.

I played here a few years ago when this opened and I thought this course will become decent with time. I had a misfortune to play here again yesterday and I was really disappointed with the conditions of the course. While the greens were decent the rest of the course was in very poor condition. Fairways had weeds growing and some places it was bare. I had my clubs scrached from dirt and stones.I would suggest people to play somewhere else as you can find a good course for same amount of money. Besides, the club professinal did not care if played or not.

I read the review by Mr. Edgerton, and needed to respond. He has obviously not played a lot of other courses that are new or are just getting their footing. Yes, there are issues at this time with the fairways mainly, but the course has gone through bankruptcy, new owners, and a hot dry summer the year it opened. the current golf pro at the course is extremely dedicated to getting the course in shape and has advised me the fairways are the first priority. i understand the 1 star for condition, but this is an extremely well laid out course with excellent greens and a bright future

I have played this coarse twice, once in May of 09 and again in April of 10. The course was in very bad condition the first time we played so we did not return until we had reports that the coarse had improved but when we arrived at the first tee we found out diffrent. I have been playing golf sence 1965 and this is the worst course any one in our groupe has played. I would not reccomend this course to any one.
