Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club (previously known as Cleghorn Plantation) in Rutherfordton, N.C. sprawls across the mountains and valleys of western North Carolina. It's a popular golf course with locals but for visitors this rather secluded course is a hidden gem. The many contours and elevation changes give each hole on the course a unique character. The elevated tee boxes provide panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, leading to heavily bunkered and undulating greens. The rolling fairways are lined with trees but they're more forgiving than they seem. Water hazards come into play on several holes and wind is also a factor. The golf course is a challenging but fair test with four sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. Thanks to the rolling terrain and beautiful scenery, Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club has drawn comparisons to Augusta but with much more affordable rates.

But I am sad to say that since the previous course manager left in Dec 22 the general condition and attitudes at the course have greatly diminished.
The course is in pretty good shape, but could be much better for their claimed status and the fees that they charge!
I once thought that it was the best course in the area, but am now considering dropping my membership and moving on to "greener" pastures!
